On January 12, 2010 a powerful earthquake struck the island nation of Haiti. With the epicenter of the quake near the populated capital, Port-au-Prince, a humanitarian disaster is unfolding. This page is designed to be a portal for the collection and dissemination of geospatial datasets and map products that may be useful for responders and the general public. Most data is available in a GIS format, a KML format (for use in Google Earth), and as a web service (ESRI and WMS).
While hosted at the University of Kansas, this page is a collaboration with the Humanitarian Information Unit, at the U.S. Department of State.
HIU Analytical Products
Currently we have four analytical products produced by the HIU available. These are all .pdf documents describing some aspect of the Haiti earthquake. Additional products will be added as they become available, updated 27 Jan 2010.

Other sources of analytical products are listed below.
There is a massive amount of geospatial data and derived analytical products that have been generated for the Haiti earthquake. The scale of the available data means that significant computing resources are required to host it. As such, the majority of links on this page now point to a number of other data portals. There are some datasets available below, but most imagery and road data is located on the portals. The data listed here originates from multiple sources and is in several different file formats and map projection/datum combinations. For free software that can convert between projections and formats see the FWTools website. Where possible the data has also been encoded in the KML format for use in Google Earth or other virtual globe software.
There are a significant number of imagery resources available for Haiti. These range from very-high resolution aerial photography (15cm) to moderate resolution satellite imagery (15-30m). The Haiti Crisis Map is a good starting point for viewing all large cross-section of available imagery. A significant amount of GIS data (imagery, elevation, and vectors) are available from the USGS Hazards Data Distribution Center. For those using Google Earth, several KML datasets are listed below in the KML section and many others are available from the Google Earth Library.

All web mapping services can be accessed through the KARS Geodata webpage by clicking on the Web Services link. Every web service can be viewed from the web services directory, and accessed through an ArcGIS ArcMap client. Most web services are also KML and WMS enabled.
As of 14 Jan 2010 we have two Haiti-based web services (Haiti_DMA and Haiti_JOG) that contain the map images listed above.
